West Brom fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were left disappointed by their side’s unfortunate 3-2 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, with the Baggies perhaps deserving at least a point against the Premier League champions.
And as our landlord points out, the Baggies almost managed an unlikely result without star striker Saido Berahino.
The forward was left out by Tony Pulis for Sunday’s clash, with his head turned following weeks of transfer speculation.
Tottenham are the club thought to be the favourites to sign the £25million rated striker, after he fired 20 goals for a struggling West Brom side last season.
But Pulis has revealed Mauricio Pochettino’s side faces some serious competition to land the England Under-21 striker, with as many as 15 clubs interested in signing him before the close of the transfer window.
The Evening Standard reports Pulis as saying: “Why are we talking about Saido today? We’re talking about Saido because of the transfer window. Everybody here today should be talking about the game and this wouldn’t be an issue. It can be disruptive and has been.
“He is fine, there’s no problems but it’s the transfer window which causes the problems. He needs to be protected, there’s loads of stuff going on in his mind, not just one club but 15 clubs. No-one should have this problem.”
Our resident Baggies fans enjoying a beer and burger here in the Transfer Tavern feel that if the striker doesn’t want to play for the club, he should be offloaded as quickly as possible, and if the club get a fee of around £25 million then that would be fantastic!
