West Bromwich Albion fans enjoying a pint here in the Transfer Tavern are looking intently at reports in the Express which claim that West Brom manager, Tony Pulis is ‘furious’ that the club failed to sell Berahino on transfer deadline day.
The England striker was the subject of no less than four bids from Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window, but none of which are said to have matched the owner, Jeremy Peaces’ valuation of the player.
It is understood that Pulis has told the forward he could leave the club, leading to him being omitted from the match day squads to face Chelsea and Stoke City in the Premier League, and had expected the forward to be sold before the window shut.
Pulis had identified squad harmony and focus as key and saw Berahino’s desire to leave as a potential distraction to not only himself, but the rest of the squad.
The landlord here in the Tavern says he over heard conversations amongst the West Brom fans exclaiming their disbelief that they did not accept the sizeable amount of money offered for a player, who didn’t even want to be there!
It has now left the club and the manager Tony Pulis in a difficult position with the player expressing he will never play for West Brom again. Do they leave such a talented player in the reserves or do they risk trying to select him only for the situation to worsen?
