West Bromwich Albion lining up January deal for prolific striker

According to Sunday’s print edition of the Sunday People (page 50) – West Brom are interested in signing FC Koln’s forward Anthony Modeste, leaving the Baggies excited here in the Transfer Tavern!

Admittedly, they are wary of the striker’s spell at Blackburn Rovers earlier in his career that wasn’t a success but they feel he’s a better player now, especially given he is this season’s top scorer in the Bundesliga.

Modeste has eight goals for FC Koln in the league this season helping them to fifth in the table, above the likes of Borussia Dortmund.

Should they sign him he’d be competing with the likes of Salomon Rondon for the starting spot up top for Tony Pulis’ Baggies, after the club let Rickie Lambert and Victor Anichebe go over the summer.

The striker did sign a new five-year deal in the summer, which should see his price go up, but West Brom are seemingly confident they can still sign him.

Our landlord thinks this would be an ambitious signing for the Midlands outfit, and says Modeste would suit the rigours and demands of the Premier League.
