West Bromwich Albion have caused a stir in the Football Transfer Tavern after the Birmingham Mail revealed that Tony Pulis is interested in landing Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Bakary Sako.
If this move materialised it would send the Black Country into raptures with the last time a direct transfer took place between the West Midlands neighbours having occurred 21 years ago in the case of Paul Edwards.
Pulis is looking to transform his Albion side this January and this was made evident after he submitted his third bid for Wigan Athletic’s Callum McManaman with a bid around £4.75 million.
He is also considering a short-term move for Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi with Pulis hoping that new faces can help the Baggies survive relegation.
But on the Sako front, Wolves manager Kenny Jacket said: “There won’t be any clarity until the summer.
“His contract is up at the end of the season and it will be left until then.
“In terms of his own personal options, he’s been very straight with us. His next contract is a very important one and I would not say it’s not going to be at Wolves. But he’ll make the decision based on the potential on us going forward and what else he can get.
“There’s a lot of speculation towards the end of every window, And, if the big hitters come for him he would know about it. But it hasn’t happened yet and I hope he stays as long as possible.”
