He’s rated at £3.6m and a Blackburn swoop for total bargain would prove ambition

Sky Sports News have reported that Blackburn Rovers are one of the several Championship outfits eyeing a move for free agent James Morrison.

The midfielder’s contract with West Brom expired this summer, and although he is currently still training with the Baggies, he is available on a free transfer.

The Scottish international with 46 caps is an ambitious target for any Championship side, but especially for Blackburn who are still celebrating promotion back into the second tier.

This is exactly why Rovers should make Morrison one of their primary targets this summer.

The Breakdown

The successful acquisition of the 32-year-old would firmly state that Blackburn are back and mean business, bringing the fans a welcome confidence boost ahead of what may be a gruelling season whilst signalling the club’s ambition.

Although Morrison may be approaching the end of his career, he has bags of Premier League experience and would bring a lot of quality to the midfield at Ewood Park.

Rovers are one of the sleeping giants of English football and will need all the technical ability and top level know-how they can get if they’re to start pushing up the table in the Championship again.

Morrison suffered an injury hit campaign last time out, which ended in relegation, and he’ll be desperate to prove that he still has plenty to offer at this level. Blackburn’s current central midfield options aren’t all that impressive in the context of the Championship either.

Morrison is valued at £3.6 million by Transfermarkt, and if Rovers could bring him in then their entire midfield will have been kicked up a gear.
