Leeds reject approach from West Brom for Luke Ayling

Leeds United rejected a late approach for one of their key men on deadline-day as Marcelo Bielsa aimed to keep his squad together.

According to a report by Football Insider, the Whites had received contact from West Bromwich Albion about a deal for Luke Ayling, however, they made it clear he was not for sale.

The Elland Road outfit stated that they had no interest in offloading the defender, whether it be on a permanent basis or on a loan deal, with the window still open until 31 August for temporary switches.

Ayling is thought to be a key figure for Bielsa heading forward as the Whites look to compete for promotion to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old was a rock at the back during their opening weekend victory against Stoke City and the attacking full-back is expected to contribute throughout the year.

The Verdict:

Leeds will be standing firm on their stance about Ayling for a while as he has shown he is an important member of the first-team.

He has become a favourite with the fans since his arrival in 2016 from Bristol City and has gone on to make 75 appearances for the club.

The Whites will know they are under no pressure to sell the full-back, as he recently signed an extended contract with the club last October, keeping him tied down to Elland Road until 2021 at the very least.
