Losing Rondon should lead West Brom to these two strikers ahead of Championship rebuild

According to The Sun, Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of West Brom’s Salomon Rondon.

West Brom have already lost several key figures from their squad this summer following last season’s relegation from the Premier League, and more departures look imminent.

Salomon Rondon continues to be linked with Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle, and Jay Rodriguez may also be picked up by a top-flight club.

Darren Moore’s need for a new striker is becoming more pressing by the day, but there are options out there whose arrival could improve the current mood at the Hawthorns.

Shane Long

Shane Long is valued at £6.3 million by Transfermarkt, but the 31-year-old has had a tricky time in front of goal of late.

In the last two Premier League campaigns combined, the Ireland international has only mustered a measly 5 goals.

A drop down to the Championship could help him to rediscover his goalscoring form.

Dwight Gayle

West Brom could seek a swap deal with Newcastle for Rondon, with Dwight Gayle being sent in the opposite direction.

The 28-year-old was prolific in the Championship throughout the 2016/17 season, but struggled to replicate this form in the Premier League last time out.

Gayle might not quite be of top flight standard, but he has what it takes to be a sensation in the second tier, which exactly what the Baggies are after.

Gayle is valued at £9 million by Transfermarkt, meaning both he and Long could almost certainly be afforded with the funds accrued from Rondon’s departure.
