Matt Phillips’ stunning West Brom strike causes mayhem on Twitter

Matt Phillips’ stunning late equaliser has rightly received a lot of plaudits from some fans on Twitter but still has not filled a lot of West Brom fans with confidence.

The Scot rifled in the equaliser on 87 minutes after his side had been second best throughout their contest against Nottingham Forest.

Despite criticism of a few West Brom players by some fans, there was no such criticism of Phillips, who was described as “too good for us”.  However, with a day remaining of the summer’s transfer window, it may well have been his last game for The Baggies, with the player being linked to Newcastle and Cardiff.

Some fans saw Phillips’ display, as well as the short spell by Dwight Gayle, as the only positives to take from a game, in a match that they deserved to lose in truth. One fan went as far to say “I’m genuinely struggling to see signs for optimism”.

Other fans saw the draw as a “step in the right direction”, and something to build on. But that may be dependant on whether the club can keep hold of Phillips.
