N’Koudou would be the perfect replacement for McClean at West Brom

N’Koudou would be the perfect replacement for McClean at West Brom

Stoke City have officially announced that they expect to complete the signing of James McClean from West Brom this weekend.

The Irish winger has already had a medical with the Potters, so now it is only a matter of time before the 29-year-old’s departure from the Hawthorns is confirmed.

Having been with the Baggies for the past 3 seasons, McClean looks set to move on having suffered relegation with the club last term. This would be just the latest instalment in a squad exodus which has seen numerous stars, including Jonny Evans and Ben Foster, leave the club already this summer.

Darren Moore’s squad is now very light in terms of numbers, and he’ll be desperate to identify and bring in a replacement for McClean on the left-wing as soon as possible.

The Breakdown

Moore will be looking for an exciting, affordable talent, with a point to prove. Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, currently of Spurs, could be that player.

At 23-years-old, and having been with the North London outfit since 2016, time is running out for the Frenchman to make a breakthrough at White Hart Lane. Regular playing time, in which he can remind the footballing world of his quality and worth, is what the ex-Marseille man needs. He will struggle to get that in Mauricio Pochettino’s current set up though.

A loan move to fellow top flight side Burnley last season didn’t really work out, as N’Koudou failed to establish himself in the first team. Now, a drop down to Championship level, on either a temporary or permanent arrangement, would likely be the best next step for the attacker.

Darren Moore should seek to take advantage of this state of affairs by bringing N’Koudou to his club this summer.

In the second tier, N’Koudou has the capabilities to be lethal in front of goal, and a nightmare for opposition defences on the wing.

The winger would arrive at West Brom desperate to prove a point as well, which could be the catalyst for the kind of good form that would put him back in the Premier League picture. In this scenario, N’Koudou is a player with the quality to be able to take the Baggies back up with him.
