Report: West Bromwich Albion prepare battle to keep Matt Phillips

West Bromwich Albion fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping they will be in a position to remain competitive in the Championship this season once the transfer window closes.

The Baggies are currently suffering the fall-out from their relegation from the Premier League at the moment, with a number of players looking to move on and some having already departed.

Darren Moore has been doing his best to try and convince some of his core stars to remain at The Hawthorns, however, he has also been looking at his recruitment options as he looks to achieve promotion back to the top-flight.

However, according to a report by TeamTALK, he could be about to lose another one of his players this summer, as Middlesbrough look to push a deal for Matt Phillips in the coming week.

Boro, who are managed by former Baggies boss Tony Pulis, are looking to reunite the pair at the Riverside Stadium after the Welshman initially signed the winger from Queen’s Park Rangers in 2016 and oversaw his fantastic form in his debut season.

The Verdict:

The 27-year-old could be tempted to reunite with his former boss at Middlesbrough this summer and may feel that he would be in a better position to challenge for a place in the Premier League at the Riverside Stadium.

Phillips’ enjoyed his best times in a Baggies shirt under Pulis and may want to replicate those performances once again under his former boss.

With the number of players West Brom appears to be trying to keep from the interest of others, it would be worrying to see who will still be at The Hawthorns when the transfer window shuts.
