According to The Express & Star, West Brom trio of James Morrison, Matt Phillips and Dwight Gayle are poised to return for their clash against Birmingham on Friday week.
The Baggies will arrive at St Andrew’s with spirits high, and should do the job over struggling rivals Birmingham. Despite appearing to be injury doubts on Saturday night, all three players are expected to be fit after the international break.
Although James Morrison hasn’t had a particularly prominent role under manager Darren Moore this season, Matt Phillips and Dwight Gayle have been integral to West Brom. Gayle bagged both goals at the weekend as The Baggies overcame Stoke, whilst Phillips has already amassed three goals this season.
Now sitting in ninth place in the Championship, this is a game that West Brom cannot afford to lose against a Birmingham outfit that are in twentieth place and yet to win a game this season. Without these star men, they could have found themselves dropping points which simply must not happen. The fact that this fixture is against their bitter rivals, will only spur Moore’s men to get the three points they need.
Gayle joined the midlands outfit from Newcastle over the summer, in a loan swap with Salomón Rondón. He has found the net three times in five Championship games, and looks as though he is seriously coming into form. Without his firepower, West Brom would have been worried.
Of course, Birmingham will provide stern test to Moore’s men when they meet on the Friday night. However, without these men, West Brom’s prospects of winning looked much bleaker than they do now.
