Russell Martin closing in on move to West Brom

West Bromwich Albion are thought to be on the verge of completing a deal for an international defender.

According to an exclusive by Football Insider, Russell Martin is at the Hawthorns on trial after the former Norwich City man had his contract mutually terminated at the end of August.

It is believed the 32-year-old is expected to join the Baggies and could announce him in the next couple of days, despite there being interest in him.

Darren Moore is thought to be keen to add to the options he has available and the Scotland international would certainly be able to help improve the team.

The defender has plenty of experience and knowledge of the Championship and could be the difference in helping them achieve their aims of getting back into the Premier League.

The Verdict:

Martin appears to be heading to West Brom this season and he could be a great squad player for the Baggies during the campaign.

The Scotland international has plenty of experience that could prove to be valuable to the club, as he has tasted promotion to the Premier League on two separate occasions.

With the likes of Ahmed Hegazi and Kyle Bartley already expected to build a partnership in the centre of the defence, he would be a suitable option for Moore should they have any injury or suspension concerns in future.
