West Brom chasing Nick Powell

West Bromwich Albion are prepared to compete with a host of clubs for a highly-rated midfielder.

According to a report by TeamTALK, the Baggies are one of a number of sides considering to make an offer for Wigan Athletic’s Nick Powell.

It is understood that Middlesbrough are favourites for the 24-year-old, however, Darren Moore is prepared to compete with their Championship rivals to land the former Manchester United midfielder.

Aston Villa, Derby County, Leeds United, Stoke City and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are all rumoured to be interested in Powell as well.

Although a deal would have to be completed initially as a loan switch, it is believed that Wigan would accept an offer of around £5million to take him from the DW Stadium.

West Brom are currently on a mixed run of form in the Championship, having been beaten by Boro in the dying moments last weekend, although they did record an emphatic 7-1 victory against Queens Park Rangers two weeks ago.

The Verdict:

Powell would be a great acquisition for the Baggies this summer, should they be able to beat off the competition from everyone else.

The Wigan man has already started this year’s campaign in impressive form, having bagged three goals and created a further three in his five appearances for the Latics so far.

With the midfielder’s contract set to expire next summer, the Baggies will be hoping they can convince him to join them at The Hawthorns as they look to get back to the Premier League.
