West Brom supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their team pick up their fourth Championship victory of the season on Tuesday night.
Darren Moore’s men went into their encounter with Bristol City off the back of a 1-1 draw at Birmingham City a few days earlier, and thus seeking to get back to winning ways at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night. And they did just that with an impressive performance as a brace from Jay Rodriguez alongside goals from Dwight Gayle and Harvey Barnes inspired the Baggies to a 4-2 win over the Robins, with goals from Lloyd Kelly and Famara Diedhiou proving to be nothing more than consolations for the visitors.
As such, there have been many thrilled West Brom fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have been taking the Twitter in recent times to rave about winger Barnes, with many calling for their club to make his loan move permanent in the near future.
And those Baggies fans calling on their side to do just that are absolutely spot on, as based on the 20-year-old’s efforts so far for the Midlands club, securing his services permanently would surely prove to be a transfer masterstroke.
Ultimately, the attacker made the move to the Hawthorns back in July of this year on loan from Midlands rivals Leicester City, this all after temporary stints at MK Dons and Barnsley in the last few years.
And in impressing during his time at Oakwell last term, in which he scored five goals and laid on five assists in 23 Championship games for the Tykes, there was much excitement and expectation among Baggies fans when he arrived at West Brom – and he has so far failed to disappoint.
The 20-year-old has been absolutely magnificent for Moore’s side this season in netting three goals and laying on two assists in eight Championship appearances for the club, with arguably his best performance coming on Tuesday night given he scored and indeed set up two as the Baggies brushed aside Lee Johnson’s Bristol City – he has been a revelation.
And at the tender age of 20, there is little doubting that the England Under-20 international has a supremely bright future ahead of him in the game – and where better for him to fulfil that potential than playing regularly at West Brom.
Yes, Leicester will obviously have something to say about that given he is their player and they too will see a huge amount of potential in him, but the fact they were happy to sanction his loan for the entirety of this season suggests that he is not in Claude Puel’s first team thoughts.
Yet Barnes is very much a key part of things at West Brom and will likely play a vital part in what success they have this term, which is why it is not overly surprising to see Baggies fans calling for Moore and the club’s hierarchy to seal a permanent deal for the 20-year-old.
And based on his efforts so far, it would undoubtedly be a masterstroke.
