West Brom hand Wes Hoolahan trial

West Bromwich Albion could be about to add an experienced Championship midfielder to their side this summer, despite the transfer window being closed.

According to a report by The Eastern Daily Press, Wes Hoolahan is thought to be on trial with the Baggies as he looks to earn a contract with the Hawthorns outfit.

The veteran is currently a free agent following his release from Norwich City after a ten-year spell with the Carrow Road club and is free to join whoever he likes this summer.

And, it is believed Darren Moore could offer the former Republic of Ireland international a quick route back to the Championship as he looks to add creative talent to his squad.

It is understood that the Baggies have put themselves in pole position to sign Hoolahan after it was thought he could be prepared to drop down to League One with interest mounting in the 36-year-old.

The Verdict:

Hoolahan would be a smart addition to the side this summer, although he could only be viewed as a short-term addition.

The midfielder is extremely experienced at playing in the Championship, having spent much of his Norwich career in the division, and would help to provide the Baggies with some valuable knowledge of the league.

However, as he is currently in his late thirties, there is a feeling that he would only be able to play a short role for the club in their quest for promotion back to the Premier League.
