West Brom make late offer for Petros Mantalos

West Bromwich Albion are looking to make a late addition to their squad this summer as they look to beat the transfer deadline.

According to a report by Spor Time in Greece, the Baggies are thought to have made a loan-to-buy offer for AEK Athens midfielder Petros Mantalos this summer.

It is being claimed the deal would involve an initial €6million loan fee with the Championship outfit having the option to purchase him on a permanent deal for an extra €4m.

The Greece international midfielder is an experienced player, having represented his country 19 times, and has played over 120 games for his current club.

Darren Moore will be looking to add attacking threat to his side as they look to return to the Premier League following last season’s relegation and could see Mantalos as the ideal player to replace Nacer Chadli this summer.

The Verdict:

Mantalos is a talented player, however, the fee that has been proposed could be a significant risk for the Baggies to make this summer.

The £3.15m-rated attacking midfielder, as per Transfermarkt, is yet to have played league football outside of Greece and could struggle to adapt to the nature of football played in the Championship.

However, he could prove to be an excellent signing for Moore’s side and could be the difference to seeing the Hawthorns outfit playing back in the top-flight next season or remaining in the second tier of English football.
