West Brom saw Deadline Day move for Scott McTominay blocked

West Bromwich Albion appear to have missed out on landing a promising midfielder in the final moments of the January transfer window.

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United ‘blocked’ a Deadline Day loan switch for Scott McTominay.

The Scotland international midfielder was believed to have been happy enough to team up with The Baggies at The Hawthorns as they looked to bolster their squad for their Premier League promotion aims.

However, the highly-rated 22-year-old was told he was needed at Old Trafford and has allegedly moved ahead of Fred in the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, especially with Marouane Fellaini’s departure.

Darren Moore did manage to bring in Stefan Johansen in the final days of the window, whilst the likes of Sam Field and Rekeem Harper are making the most of their opportunities to impress.

The Verdict:

There is no doubt that McTominay would have been a great addition for West Brom this season as they look to make an instant return to the Premier League.

The Scotland international is highly-regarded at Manchester United and has shown glimpses of his ability in performances for the Red Devils since being handed his chance by Jose Mourinho.

The Baggies appear to be doing well without him in their ranks so far and Moore will be looking for his side to continue in their efforts to win automatic promotion.
