According to HITC, reporting via Italian outlet Bergamo Corriere Della Sera, Atalanta have made an attempt to sign Pedro Obiang from West Ham United.
Obiang has been with the Hammers since 2015, but endured an injury hit campaign last time out. The subsequent arrival of Jack Wilshere to the London Stadium looks to have pushed the Spaniard down the pecking order and now Obiang may be willing to seek first team opportunities elsewhere.
The aforementioned report states that Atalanta have offered around £8 million for Obiang. Until a transfer is confirmed though, there is still time for any other interested clubs to muscle in on the deal.
West Brom should consider moving for Obiang before it’s too late.
The Baggies have endured a player exodus so far this summer following their relegation from the Premier League. Darren Moore’s midfield options have been left perilously thin, and he’ll be desperate to bring fresh faces to the Hawthorns soon.
A defensively minded midfielder will be high on Moore’s list, with 37-year-old Gareth Barry the only out and out defensive midfielder left in his squad.
The arrival of the 26-year-old Obiang would inject a lot of badly needed youth, athleticism and defensive awareness to West Brom’s midfield.
Transfermarkt value Obiang at £7.2 million, but it looks as though West Brom will have to outbid Atalanta they’re to land their man.
Whilst Obiang may be tempted by the lure of top flight football in Italy, the opportunity to stay in England, where he has lived since his arrival at West Ham, may sway him.
