West Brom should target double deal for Danny Simpson and Andy King

West Brom should target double deal for Danny Simpson and Andy King

West Bromwich Albion have started the season with plenty of promise, but the sparsity of their squad is giving supporters genuine cause for concern ahead of a long-winded Championship campaign.

Darren Moore may well have brought in 7 new players to the club so far this summer, but the Baggies squad could still benefit from plenty of padding out before the loan window slams shut.

The lack of strength in depth in central midfield is a notable problem which needs addressing in the coming weeks, and a recent report from the Leicester Mercury seems to suggest that an ideal talent may be available for transfer.

The report claims that Claude Puel is looking to loan out fringe players before the end of the month, with the likes of Andy King, Matty James and Papy Mendy all in contention for a transfer after being pushed down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium.

King spent the second half of last season on loan at Swansea City where he was unable to prevent the Swans from slipping down into the second tier, but the energy he provided in midfield suggested he would be a valuable asset to any promotion-chasing Championship side.

With both that notion and West Brom’s shortage of central midfielders to consider, there’s no doubt that Darren Moore should have King firmly on his radar this month.

And the same report claims that right-back Danny Simpson is available for a loan deal after dropping down to third choice in the pecking order behind Ricardo Pereira and Daniel Amartey, although Stoke City are reportedly considering a move for the former Man United trainee.

Despite this, there’s no reason why West Brom should not be rivalling the Potters for his services, as his marauding ability to cover the length of the touchline would provide the club with a valuable asset at both ends of the field throughout the season.

Moore does have options to chose from at right-back, but with injuries, suspensions and dips in form naturally bound to emerge throughout the season, the importance of depth cannot be expressed highly enough.

Both King and Simpson would be excellent additions to West Brom’s squad this summer, so the club should take note of recent reports and do everything they can to complete a double raid on Leicester.
