West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are glad the season is finally over with the Hammers now on the lookout for a new manager.
David Moyes replaced Slaven Bilic in October with the club stuck in the relegation battle. Despite leading them to safety, Moyes’ short-term contract has expired and David Sullivan is exploring alternative options to the Scot.
Rafael Benitez was the favourite to land the job but it seems the Spaniard is happy to stay at Newcastle if he is given financial backing in the upcoming transfer window. Instead, the Hammers should look to appoint former Manchester City manager – Manuel Pellegrini. The Premier League winner is currently in charge of Chinese club Hebei China Fortune.
The ex-Real Madrid boss left City with the fifth highest win percentage in Premier League history and his side also holds the record for most goals scored in a Premier League season. The Hammers have struggled to find the back of the net consistently this season so the Chilean is the answer to their problems.
The 64-year-old has a glittering CV and plenty of experience in European football as well; helping City and Villarreal to the final four of the Champions League for the first time in their histories. With Benitez set to stay at St. James’ Park, bringing Pellegrini back to England would be West Ham’s best decision in years.
