West Ham cannot afford to let one of Britain’s best strikers slip through their fingers this month

West Ham United have it all to do if they are to avoid the drop this season, with the Hammers lying just a perilous two points ahead of the bottom-three.

New boss David Moyes has helped stem the flow of bad results at The London Stadium, but fans here in The Transfer Tavern are in agreement that the club must pull out their checkbook this month if they are to ensure that survival is secured this season. The Hammers have struggled at both ends of the field this season, scoring just twenty-five and conceding forty in just twenty-two games, with both issues in need of attention. Our landlord caught up with fans whilst collecting glasses in the beer garden, with the focus of the chat surrounding the club’s lack of goals. Fans are keen to see the club bring in fresh attacking talent, and are perplexed that their side have not attempted to hijack Brighton’s reported move for Celtic forward, Moussa Dembele.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a wonderful season with Fulham in the Championship in the 2015/16 season before heading north of the border following the expiration of his deal in West London. Dembele bagged nineteen goals last season to help Celtic storm to the title, and although his form has faltered this year with just five goals and three assists, his stock remains high. Should Celtic begin to accept bids this summer from the likes of Brighton, then Moyes must swoop to secure one of European football’s hottest young talents.
