West Ham closing in on loan swoop for Carlos Sanchez

West Ham United are on the verge of completing a surprise deal this summer as they look to finish their recruitment drive.

Manuel Pellegrini has already overseen a complete squad overhaul following his appointment as the Hammers boss, however, it is expected that he will still bring in a couple of new faces before Thursday’s deadline.

One of the men expected to arrive at the London Stadium this summer is Carlos Sanchez, with the Fiorentina man thought to join on a loan deal, according to reports by football.london.

The Colombia international would become a surprise addition for the Hammers this summer as he appeared to struggle during the World Cup, where was sent off in the opening game against Japan and conceded a penalty in their defeat to England.

To make things even more surprising, Sanchez has experienced football in the Premier League, however, things did not work out for him.

He spent two years with Aston Villa between 2014 and 2016 and was part of the side that saw the Villans relegated to the Championship as he failed to find his feet.

The Verdict:

A loan deal for Sanchez could appear to look strange for West Ham initially, however, he could prove to be a useful addition.

He is expected to compete for a place in the side with the likes of Pedro Obiang and Declan Rice for the defensive midfield role.

The Hammers will be hoping he can find it easier to adapt to the Premier League this time around, rather than see him struggle like he did with Aston Villa once again.
