Manuel Pellegrini is thought to be in the hunt to bring a new striker to West Ham United this January.
And, according to a report in Spain, it would appear that he could be about to bring one to the London Stadium imminently.
It is understood by the media outlet that a deal is thought to be worth just over €40million, which is slightly short of his minimum release clause of €50million.
If a transfer was to happen, the Uruguay international would eclipse the record transfer fee West Ham paid for Felipe Anderson in the summer – thought to be around €38m per Transfermarkt.
And, it appears he is keen on working under Pellegrini at the London Stadium as he is thought to like the fact that a South American contingent is already at the club.
If the reports are true, this would be a huge deal for West Ham and could be considered one of the deals of the winter transfer window.
The 22-year-old has been in fine form for Celta this season, having hit nine goals and providing five assists in his 18 games so far and carrying on from last year’s exploits that had put him on a number of club’s radars.
With the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez being linked with possible exits, landing Gomez would certainly be ideal.
