West Ham United appear to be lining up a move for one of their midfield targets once the summer transfer window opens.
According to The Sun ( 3 March, page 69), via HITC Sport, The Hammers will attempt to bring Jonjo Shelvey to the club.
The midfielder appears to have fallen out of favour at Newcastle United and could be allowed to leave, despite Rafa Benitez deciding against a January departure.
The 27-year-old has not played for the first-team in almost two months and with Scott Longstaff and Isaac Hayden appearing to build a solid partnership in the middle of the pitch, Shelvey looks unlikely to break back into the team any time soon.
And, that could allow for Manuel Pellegrini to bring the player to the London Stadium in the summer, although they will have to splash out around £20million to land him.
Shelvey could be a great addition to West Ham if he were to reach his potential, however, there will be doubts that he can.
The midfielder puts in too many inconsistent performances at times, which seemingly has led to him falling down the pecking order at Newcastle and could make £20m seem like a rather costly purchase.
However, if Pellegrini can get the best out of him, it may be an inspired signing from the Chilean and one that could help take the Hammers into achieving European football in the future.
