A deal between Sebastien Haller and West Ham United appears to be moving in the right direction, according to a report by L’Equipe.
The French media outlet state the Eintracht Frankfurt striker was reluctant to a switch to begin with after initially rejecting a move; however, the situation has seemingly changed with agent Willie McKay thought to have been heavily involved.
It is claimed contractual discussions have already begun as the clubs are thought to have agreed to a deal worth around €40million (£35.9m) and the Bundesliga outfit have already begun their search for a new centre-forward.
The transfer story regarding Haller appears to be changing with each passing day and it will be interesting to see how this one turns out.
Italian journalist Nicolo Schira claimed on Twitter on Wednesday that the Hammers had agreed to a €40million (£36m) deal for the forward and he was expected to sign a five-year contract, but Bild quickly shot that down by saying the French striker was not interested and even went as far to try and discredit Schira.
As L’Equipe note, it seems as though Haller has had a change of heart regarding a switch and that could be excellent news for West Ham.
The 25-year-old could be an excellent upgrade on the recently departed Marko Arnautovic as his figures were better than the Austrian in almost every single department last season.
In the final third, Haller managed to provide Frankfurt with 20 goals and 12 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit (Transfermarkt), whereas Arnautovic managed just 11 and four respectively in his 30 matches (Transfermarkt).
The individual stats recorded by WhoScored also appear to highlight just how good of a campaign Haller had last season and why he might just be an upgrade on the departed Austria international. Disregarding the goal and assist tallies, the French forward outnumbered the former Hammer in aerial duels (6.9 to 0.9) and with his average rating (7.55 to 6.84). The Austrian managed more shots per goal (1.9 to 2.2); however, Haller’s figures certainly make him appear to be a lot more clinical with his finishing ability.
