The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been drowning their sorrows today…
The Hammers were comfortably beaten by Man Utd over the weekend, with Romelu Lukaku enjoying a stellar Premier League debut for the Red Devils – with Slaven Bilic’s defence unable to handle the Belgian.
However, it appears as though Slaven Bilic is working on a solution, and it seems as though the West Ham defensive line is set to be made far stronger over the coming days.
According to Portuguese publication DN, William Carvalho’s move to West Ham is said to be ‘imminent’, with the midfielder potentially set to jet off to London to sign a deal with the Hammers as soon as today (Monday).
West Ham’s move is reported to be over €40 million (£36.3 million) after add-ons, meaning that it is likely to go down as a record move for the Hammers.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Carvalho will no doubt improve the defensive fortunes of West Ham – with his powerful, relentless running likely to be hugely influential in the Premier League.
It was clear against Man Utd that West Ham still need to improve if they want to compete in the top-half of the table, and a move for Carvalho would certainly be a good start.
The Portuguese midfielder has earned a reputation for being a no-nonsense midfielder with incredible energy and commitment, and this will be key for Bilic this season.
An excellent passer and dribbler, Carvalho will also aid West Ham going forward – meaning that he could become the glue that holds the team together this season.
Though the fans in the Transfer Tavern are disappointed, this move will undoubtedly cheer them up.
