Diego Costa has emerged as a surprise target for West Ham United this summer, according to a report by The Mirror.
The Atletico Madrid man is expected to leave the Spanish side once again after rejoining them from Chelsea two seasons ago.
Manuel Pellegrini is desperate to find a new forward to spearhead the attack after losing the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez, leaving just Javier Hernandez and Jordan Hugill at the club.
West Ham could have a battle on their hands though if they are to try and sign the 30-year-old, with both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton said to be monitoring the situation as well.
Costa could be the striker that West Ham have been looking for this summer as he has proven he knows how to find the back of the net on a regular basis in the Premier League.
Despite a disappointing campaign in La Liga with Atletico Madrid, whereby he only scored two goals in his 16 appearances (Transfermarkt), he managed to be rather clinical in England.
He struck 52 goals in his 89 matches for Chelsea as he helped guide them to two Premier League titles in his three seasons at Stamford Bridge prior to his acrimonious fall out with Antonio Conte via text message.
Trouble does, however, appear to follow him around, as the 30-year-old was handed an eight-game ban towards the end of last season after making some rather distasteful remarks towards an official in Atletico Madrid’s defeat to Barcelona.
Prolific as he may be on these shores, having got rid of one character in Arnautovic – Claire Rafferty (former West Ham Ladies defender) described him as a ‘boisterous character’ in an interview with talkSPORT, West Ham and Pellegrini will surely have to be a tad cautious approaching this transfer.
