West Ham emerge as shock contenders to land £140k-per-week Spurs target

The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern seem to have accepted that Ross Barkley is likely to leave the club this summer and are already looking at replacements.

With Ross Barkley’s exit looming, it is just a question of where he will end up.

Tottenham Hotspur were thought to be in pole position to win the race for Ross Barkley but they are now being challenged by a surprise rival.

According to The Daily Star, West Ham United are willing to splash the cash on Ross Barkley as a marquee summer signing.

Slaven Bilic is willing to offer the 23-year-old more than double his current wage by giving him £140,000 per week to play for West Ham.

The England international is entering the final year of his contract with Everton and looks set to leave with the Toffees lining up a £35m move for Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson and a potential swoop for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney as Barkley’s replacement.

West Ham are keen to recruit well this summer and Ross Barkley is seen as a top target, although Everton’s £50m price tag could put the Hammers off.

Manchester United and Spurs remain interested in the want-away Everton star as this saga looks set to continue into the summer.
