West Ham failed to sign Marc Roca from Espanyol in January - Premier League

West Ham United did not make an addition in the January transfer window, however, it appears they had tried to.

Sport are claiming Espanyol’s Marc Roca was the subject of a move from The Hammers, as well as Inter Milan, but were turned down.

It is claimed that Manuel Pellegrini’s side did not get past the initial contact for the player, with the La Liga side not interested in entering any form of negotiations for the midfielder.

West Ham did not make an offer for Roca as Espanyol wanted the €40million release clause to be met, otherwise, they were adamant that he would not be sold.

The 22-year-old has been a mainstay in the Spanish side this season and has been largely impressive with his form for the Catalan outfit.

The Verdict:

West Ham had spent a vast amount of money in the summer rebuilding their squad and it appears as though they were not prepared to spend big in the winter.

The 22-year-old is an exciting prospect and is touted to be one of the next generation of midfielders believed to be coming through the Spanish game.

If he continues to put in a number of impressive performances for Espanyol during the remainder of the season, it will be interesting to see if whether West Ham will make a return for Roca.
