West Ham supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side go down 3-1 at fellow Premier League strugglers Brighton on Saturday, thus bringing to an end their six-match unbeaten league run.
David Moyes’ men went into their clash with the Seagulls having won two and drawn the other four of their preceding six league games, a run of form which has seen them put some distance between themselves and the division’s bottom three. Yet the Hammers remain just three points clear of the relegation zone as goals from Glenn Murray, Jose Izqueirdo, and Pascal Gross sealed a comfortable victory for Chris Hughton’s side, who moved level on points with the East London outfit in the Premier League table.
Consequently, there have been several frustrated and angry Hammers fans in the Tavern, and they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent tweet from HLN Sport journalist Kristof Terreur, which suggests that the club failed with a £13 million bid for Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker during the January window.
The 22-year-old came up through the ranks at the Belgian giants to earn his senior debut for the club back in 2013, for whom he has since played 157 further times and helped to the domestic league title last season.
As such, Moyes’ Hammers were reportedly linked with the Belgium international in the January window, as they sought much-needed midfield reinforcements to aid with their Premier League survival quest.
No deal materialised though, yet a recent tweet from journalist Terreur suggests that the East London outfit did make a £13 million move for the 22-year-old.
West Ham offered around £13m to be paid in instalments. (first instalment around £4,4m).

And while the effort was there from the Hammers to get a deal done for Dendoncker, this news is still unlikely to delight our resident West Ham fans, as their midfield ranks remain thin heading into the final few months of the season.
Landlord’s verdict: West Ham have looked light in midfield for much of the campaign so far, so it wasn’t surprising to see the Hammers linked with reinforcements in that area during the January window.
And the man they went after was Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker, a 22-year-old who has performed well in their midfield in the last few years, earning four caps for Belgium along the way.
And recent reports suggest that the Hammers failed with a £13 million offer for the young midfielder during the winter window, in news which is unlikely to delight our resident West Ham fans, several of whom are concerned that they haven’t got the sufficient depth in the middle to pull clear of the relegation mire.
