West Ham returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday after beating Burnley 4-2 at the London Stadium in another game where manager Manuel Pellegrini looked to utilise Declan Rice in the holding midfield role.
The 19-year-old has been a revelation there this season, putting in some big performances against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
As a result, West Ham have looked to tie down Rice to a new contract with the midfielder’s current deal set to expire next summer (via the Telegraph).
However, the club have had no such luck, and Transfer Tavern has since found a host of West Ham supporters on Twitter demanding the London Stadium hierarchy to sort things out.
Ultimately, given how Rice has performed so far this campaign and the fact that the Republic of Ireland international has come through the club’s youth ranks after he was released by Chelsea, it is not surprising that the West Ham faithful are desperate to see him extend his stay in east London.
With that in mind, the Hammers absolutely have to get £13.5m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Rice to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Additionally, assessing Pellegrini’s other midfield options, the club would be crazy to let Rice leave so easily.
New signings Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez have not looked convincing in any of the appearances they have made since arriving at the London Stadium, while the former is currently sidelined with yet another injury.
If the club are to make further progress and maintain it, then they need to keep hold of their best players such as Rice.
