West Ham fans have been full of praise for Issa Diop and rightly so - Premier League

West Ham United supporters are suffering yet another crisis of confidence after their side suffered a 1-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

The tale of the Hammers’ season so far has carried a strong feeling of familiarity as discontent amongst the supporter is already rife following 4 straight defeats. The arrival of Manuel Pellegrini was intended to stimulate a revolution at the club and finally put an end to the problems which have characterised their past.

But a summer spending spree and the arrival of a Premier League title winner have done nothing to improve results as of yet, although it must be considered that West Ham have faced both Arsenal and Liverpool away from home in their opening fixtures.

Despite all of this, there has been one positive for the fans to take from the season so far: the quality of Issa Diop’s performances since stepping into the first-team.

Indeed, the West Ham supporters on Twitter were eager to single the 21-year-old out for individual praise in the aftermath of their defeat against newly-promoted Wolves, and one fan even labelled him as their ‘best outfield signing’.

At the heart of West Ham’s defence Diop has provided solidity in abundance with his ability in 1 vs 1 situations and commanding aerial presence, whilst his distribution from the back has been excellent.

Considering he is just 21-years-old, it appears that Pellegrini has pulled a blinder by bringing him to the London Stadium, and if he continues to build on his impressive start there’s no doubt he could become a mainstay in central defence.

The supporters have every right to be disappointed with their side’s opening to the season, but with Diop (valued at £19.8 million by Transfermarkt) at the heart of defence there’s no reason why their results can’t improve with further improvement at the opposite end of the pitch.
