West Ham fans have got it good this season and when they can eventually kick the whole defensive ineptitude they’ll surely be competing for the top six, but until then they’re battling it in mid-table. It would help if Issa Diop was starting every week, though, and yesterday he started on the bench.

The Hammers have seen a lot of Diop this season but recently he’s been left on the bench as Fabian Balbuena has been partnering Angelo Ogbonna in Manuel Pellegrini’s backline. With Diop joining last summer for a large transfer fee of £22 million from Toulouse he’s done more than enough to prove himself and now the Irons aren’t happy to see him on the bench.
Pellegrini knows what he’s doing and when his side’s go forward in attack they can be lethal, but at the back, this side at The London Stadium can be suspect. Shipping two when Leicester visited was far from ideal and the supporters were all seemingly proven right when they were demanding before the game that Diop should have started, even if both Ogbonna and Balbuena are good enough on their day.

Diop needs to start as our best defender

Frederick's should start ahead of Zimmaleta and Diop should start ahead of Ogbonna.

. @BroadcastMoose our back 4 is just to slow to cope with Leicester’s pace and creativity – surely start with fredericks and diop?

Diop on bench again! Our most expensive defender and he ain’t playing.

The Hammers were all clear that they wanted Diop and will be hoping the Frenchman is back in the side as soon as possible.
