West Ham fans have known for a long time that Declan Rice is going to be a star, however, no one quite expected him to step up in the way that he has since Manuel Pellegrini took over. The Chilean gaffer obviously saw something special in Rice and has converted him from a central defender to a defensive midfielder, a change which has paid dividends for the youngster.

Manuel Pellegrini isn’t the only one who rates Rice highly, most of the Hammers all love having him out on the pitch and are desperate to see him sign a new deal. However, it will be up to the ex-Manchester City boss to convince the defender that the London Stadium is where he should be playing, and after his latest comments on the West Ham website, it looks like he has every intention of starting Rice at every possible opportunity.
Rice has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs over the last few months and it’s worrying for the Irons that he’s yet to sign a new deal, as with every day that goes by there’s the chance that he may have his head turned by one of the top six, who will no doubt be sniffing around the 19-year-old as one of the next great young players. However, a contract will be hard to agree with the youngster, especially seeing as you’ve got the likes of Phil Foden at Manchester City, who recently agreed a new £30,000 per week deal.

Foden just got 30k a month, surely Rice should be getting something similar?

I think he deserved a new contract.

The Irons love Rice and would do anything to keep him, making the wait for him to sign a new contract feel a painful one.
