West Ham fans were over the moon yesterday when their side turned up at St James Park and played the Magpies off the park with a massive 3-0 win. However, the fans weren’t confident the whole way through and when Aaron Cresswell has to be hooked due to injury in the second half, and his replacement, Arthur Masuaku, hardly fills the fans with confidence.

Masuaku isn’t a bad player going forward. When West Ham were using a back three system with two wingbacks on either side, the Congolese defender was a superb option to deploy as a marauding wing-back, but unfortunately, he lacks the defensive nouse to be used as a left-back in a flat back-four. This is exactly why the Irons were frustrated when they lost Cresswell to injury, especially seeing as the English defender had been superb on the afternoon.
In the end, things worked out well for The Hammers and whilst they were winning 1-0 when Masuaku entered the fray, it didn’t take them long to double the lead after his introduction when Javier Hernandez popped up with his second goal. The attacking left-back played well in his cameo appearance from the bench and if he can put in some more consistent displays like he did yesterday then the supporters will have no issues calling upon him in future games.

The Irons were fuming to see Masuaku called into the action, and whilst he played well when called upon, he didn’t give the fans much confidence.
