West Ham: Hammers interested in signing Andrea Belotti

West Ham have once again been linked with a striker.

The need for a new forward to spearhead the attack will have become all the more pressing with recent developments as it would appear Marko Arnuatovic is on his way out of the club this summer as he has allegedly passed a medical with Shanghai SIPG following the acceptance of their ‘terrible’ €25million (£22.5m) bid (Sky Sports).

According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, who works for La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pellegrini has set his sights on signing Andrea Belotti. It is claimed the Hammers are ready to splash out €40m (£35.8m) on the Torino forward, however, the Serie A outfit are not willing to sell him.

Indeed, that is hardly a surprise as the 25-year-old had an exceptional year in front of goal as he managed to bag 17 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions (more goals than anyone in the Claret and Blue managed), and ultimately helping them to a Europa League place following AC Milan’s expulsion.

It is not the first time Belotti’s name has been mentioned with a switch to the London Stadium, as he was heavily linked with a move back in January, with Tuttosport claiming West Ham held a ‘concrete interest’ in him at the time.

And, looking at the forward’s style of play and the statistics recorded by WhoScored, it would appear the Italy international would have every chance of thriving at the club if he were to move to the Premier League.

Although his game might not fit the 4-1-4-1 system that Pellegrini likes to adopt (Torino adopt a 3-5-2 formation that he appears suited to), Belotti is extremely capable in the air (winning 4.1 aerial duels per game in Serie A) and would provide the wingers with someone they can target in the penalty box with their crossing abilities, something the Italians do a lot as well (WhoScored).

Belotti averaged 3.4 shots per match in Serie A, whilst Arnuatovic only managed 2.2, although his creative play was worse off (just 0.9 key passes to the Austrian’s 1.3).

It sounds as though it could be a deal that would be hard to get over the line moving forward with Torino’s reluctance, however, Belotti could be the perfect man to try and acquire this summer.
