West Ham have second bid for Marcelo rejected

West Ham United are continuing their search for new recruits this summer, however, it looks as though one man may not be joining them at the London Stadium.

Manuel Pellegrini has already added seven new faces to his side during the transfer window as the Chilean looks to make his side a competitive force in the Premier League.

It is understood that he still has a desire to bring another centre-back to the Hammers, despite adding Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena, following the latest injury setback to Winston Reid.

It is believed the club have been chasing Olympique de Lyonnais’ Marcelo for some time now, however, a move for the player looks to be unlikely as reports suggest that a deal will not be reached.

According to Goal, West Ham have had a second bid of around €25million rejected by the Ligue One outfit, which is considered to be a hefty sum for a player in his thirties.

The Verdict:

Pellegrini and West Ham would be better off focusing their efforts on a number of other targets this summer if they can not land Marcelo.

There is no doubt that the 31-year-old is a talented player, however, with the likes of Yerry Mina or Alfie Mawson available for a fee slightly more than what they are offering already, they should move on from the Brazilian.

Furthermore, they already have a number of capable defenders at the London Stadium and Pellegrini should look to improving other areas of the pitch, for example, by adding a striker this summer.
