West Ham United have quite clearly managed to improve this season, however, there are still some significant areas of the team that require modifications.
It would not be a surprise to see Manuel Pellegrini head into the transfer market once again this summer and it would seem that one man that could immediately strengthen the Hammers’ options at left-back is on his radar at the moment.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Correio da Manha (via Sport Witness), West Ham have shown an interest in signing Olympiacos’ Leonardo Koutris this summer.
The Greece international is thought to be in high demand, with Porto and Everton also said to be keen on the left-back.
It is believed a figure of around €10million (£8.6m) is being demanded for the 23-year-old to leave the Athens outfit.
Koutris has been excellent for Olympiacos this season and appears to be the ideal man for West Ham to target this summer as their left-back position has become somewhat a problem for Pellegrini’s side.
The London Stadium outfit may already have Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku fighting it out for the starting spot, however, neither have managed to put together a compelling argument and have left doubts over their ability.
Koutris’ potential arrival would certainly help to immediately upgrade the position, if not help Pellegrini solve the issue and as he is just 23-years-old, it would seem as though he could be a player to make the spot his own over the long-term future.
Defensively solid, he can also provide some attacking support down the flanks as he is capable of dribbling with the ball at pace and going past his defender, something that would suit the system employed at the London Stadium under the Chilean manager.
With a figure of £8.6m being demanded, it does not appear to be an expensive price to play of the Greece international’s quality either, so it must be something that West Ham seriously consider doing in the summer before Porto or Everton look to pounce.
