The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a more successful season at the London Stadium next season…
Though it was recovered towards the end of the season, the 2016/17 campaign was, for the most part, a very poor one. A relegation battle was certainly on the cards for a couple months, whilst the widely expected European spot challenge was nowhere to be seen.
Next season, then, a lot more will be expected, and preparations to that end appear well underway. Whilst summer transfers are obviously important at this time of year, it is also vital to ensure that West Ham’s most important players remain a part of the first team – and that is seemingly something that Slaven Bilic is keen to do.
According to the Mirror, West Ham have opened talks with Pedro Obiang over a new deal for the midfielder, as the club look to ward off interest at home and abroad.
Obiang was a pretty vital part of proceedings at West Ham last season, finishing the domestic campaign with 22 league appearances. Rarely a spectacular player, Obiang often gets on with his job silently and consistently – and clearly, Bilic is impressed.
The West Ham fans in the pub are very happy with this.
