West Ham in driving seat for Marlon Santos deal

West Ham United have been extremely successful during the transfer window this summer and have seen a number of quality arrivals.

The Hammers have added the likes of Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson to their side, as well as bolstering the defence and goalkeeper departments as Manuel Pellegrini looks to cast a new era at the London Stadium.

The new manager wants to take his side into European competition, as well as bringing attractive football to his new club, and the signings that he has made has already helped boost their chances of making them achievable targets.

It is believed Pellegrini could still be in the transfer market for a new defender, and reports in Spain are suggesting that he could be about to raid one of La Liga’s giants.

According to Sport, West Ham are considered to be in the strongest position to land Barcelona’s Marlon Santos, following a proposed deal to Southampton having fallen through. It is understood that negotiations had already taken place and could just resume them from before.

The Verdict:

There could be a risk with West Ham trying to sign Marlon now, as he previously looked to have agreed to a deal with Southampton. There will be question marks over whether he really wants the move to the Hammers, although he knows his future at the Nou Camp is rather limited.

There have been some doubts in the past about the young Brazilian, with concerns that he may not have the physical capability to play in the Premier League, although he did prove to be a solid customer during his time on loan at Nice in Ligue One last season.
