The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern are in much better spirits after seeing their side move up to 11th in the Premier League. The Hammers brushed aside Huddersfield Town in a 4-1 thrashing away from home. Manuel Lanzini grabbed a brace while Mark Noble and Marko Arnautovic also scored for the Irons to make Joe Lolley’s impressive goal redundant.
But David Moyes is still eyeing reinforcements this month. According to a report by The Sun, West Ham want to sign Khouma Babacar from Fiorentina. The Hammers are interested in a loan deal for him but Fiorentina are holding out for a £15m fee.
Babacar has played a bit part role for the Serie A side all season with all fifteen of his Serie A outings coming from the bench. He has scored four goals in that time.
The 24-year-old is still rated at £15m, though, as West Ham consider their striker options. Andy Carroll is wanted by Chelsea and Javier Hernandez has been looked at by Los Angeles and Manchester United.
And while David Moyes said that neither are up for sale, the Irons could get rid of the attacking duo at the right price and bring in Babacar.
West Ham should avoid this move. Babacar is not an improvement on their current options and his fellow Senegal international Diafra Sakho would even be a better option up front. A loan deal certainly appears to be a classic cheap option by West Ham’s owners yet again – it has not worked in the past.
