The Football Transfer Tavern has just discovered via The Mirror that West Ham United are looking at signing Stoke City’s Peter Crouch this summer as the Hammers ponder transfer alternatives to Andy Carroll.
Former Tottenham hitman Crouch moved to the Britannia Stadium for £10 million in 2011 but hasn’t been at his best this season and has even slipped behind Kenwyne Jones in the pecking order for some spells of 2012/13.
Sam Allardyce’s side have already indicated that the £17 million fee to make Andy Carroll’s loan spell permanent is out of their league, thus the club looking at other options and the Hammers boss feels Crouch would bring tremendous experience and character to the side.
Crouch is reportedly looking at moving south once more (perhaps Abbey Clancy has grown fed up of life in the Potteries!) and Crouch would represent a far cheaper option but arguably a more underwhelming one than Carroll.
