West Ham United fans would be forgiven if they were disappointed with how things have been going recently as the current Premier League season draws to an end. Manuel Pellegrini’s side appear to have fallen flat as recent weeks have gone by, however, on the grand scheme of things, it has not been a disastrous campaign by any means.
The Hammers have had to deal with their fair share of injuries this season which has not helped them, especially in the midfield areas, although it appears they could be taking steps to improve their options in the summer.
What’s the News?
L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) are claiming West Ham are interested in signing Saint-Etienne’s Yann M’Vila this summer.
It is stated that the Hammers have already made ‘concrete steps’ to bring the player back to the Premier League, where he had a loan spell with Sunderland in the 2015/16 campaign.
M’Vila was rather impressive during his previous spell in the Premier League with the Black Cats and it was a surprise when Sunderland decided against trying to sign him on a permanent basis after they survived the drop.
However, the 28-year-old did not appear to let that affect his football on the pitch as he has continued to excel with Saint-Etienne this season, making 33 appearances across all competitions.
His ability to pass the ball and make interceptions could make him a welcomed addition at the London Stadium, especially if the likes of Pedro Obiang are offloaded in the summer, as reports have previously claimed that he could be departing.
Combative and explosive, M’Vila has shown that he can play at the very top level and could be the ideal man to partner up with Declan Rice just in front of the defence, whilst the former France international would also offer Pellegrini’s side a little going forward.
However, with Saint-Etienne challenging for a place in European competition next season, whether he would be willing to return to the Premier League and join the Hammers remains to be seen.
West Ham fans, what do you make of the club taking ‘concrete steps’ to sign M’Vila? Do you think he would be a good addition at the London Stadium? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
