The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern are in agreement that additions are needed this January. The Hammers are currently sitting just above the relegation zone in the Premier League and David Moyes wants to add some strength in depth to their side.
According to a report by The Sun, West Ham United are going to make a £25m bid for Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson. They could also offer Andre Ayew the chance to rejoin his former club Swansea as part of the deal.
Swansea are holding out for £40m for the former England under-21 international but West Ham are hoping that Carlos Carvalhal’s side will be tempted to accept a £25m plus extras, add-on fees and Andre Ayew.
And the Hammers are also hoping that Mawson will push for a move if they offer to quadruple his current wage packet of £15k per week.
Swansea snapped up the young defender from Barnsley in summer 2016 for just £5m and the Tykes could be in for a windfall payment if a big money move goes ahead. Swansea have to pay Barnsley a slice of the fee West Ham would pay which is why they are holding out for a big fee.
Swansea, currently bottom of the Premier League, might be reluctant to sell to relegation rivals. The Hammers are just outside the relegation zone and could tempt Mawson with a lot more money than he currently is on. But at £25m plus Ayew, he is not the answer to West Ham’s problems at the back.
