To put it bluntly, it’s been a season to forget for Slaven Bilic’s West Ham United, and their fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been pretty glum all season.
After a fantastic campaign last year, optimism was rife among the West Ham faithful here in the Tavern, with a few saying the Irons could reach the top four of the Premier League at the start of the season.
Their shift from the Boleyn Ground to the London Stadium was supposed to be a smooth transition, however, it has been an utter disaster.
The topic of transfers is, of course, a frequent part of the discourse here in the Transfer Tavern, and Tony Gale on Sky Sports News has well and truly stoked the fire here in the pub.
The West Ham legend has spoken his mind on the state of the club, and in particular the summer transfer business that Bilic and the top brass at the club did.
“They got linked with everyone, but they didn’t get anyone,” said Gale on Wednesday morning’s Premier League Daily show on Sky Sports News.
“They got a lot of rubbish at the start of the summer. The recruitment was poor from West Ham and as good as it was the season before it’s been bad in the last recruitment and that’s shown in the results. You can only do with what you’ve got as players.”
Our landlord has to agree with Gale’s strong viewpoint, and thinks that the business Bilic did was useless, and that they have learnt a major lesson.
