West Ham United will have been devastated by the news that Andriy Yarmolenko will spend a significant portion of his debut season on the sidelines.
The Ukraine international attacker joined the Hammers in the summer from Borussia Dortmund and despite a slow start to life at the London Stadium, he had started to find his feet in Manuel Pellegrini’s side and become a key player.
Yarmolenko is now expected to miss around six months of action following an Achilles tendon injury following surgery and the Irons could now look to the January transfer market to find a replacement.
Manuel Lanzini is expected to make a return in the early stages of 2019, however, Pellegrini could decide to bring an attacker that has been in fine form this season to help cover the 29-year-old’s absence.
The Atalanta United midfielder has had an impressive season in the MLS this year and is thought to have attracted plenty of interest, with the likes of Arsenal having been heavily linked in the past.
Andriy Yarmolenko’s injury will have come as a huge blow to West Ham this season and could force the club into looking for a replacement.
Almiron would be a great signing should the Hammers turn to him, as he grabbed plenty of the headlines in the MLS with his performances for Atalanta, netting 12 goals and assisting a further 13.
There are likely to be plenty of rumours about the 24-year-old as the transfer window draws closer, but this could be one that Pellegrini and West Ham may look to make happen.
