West Ham: Manuel Pellegrini set to make a U-turn regarding Javier Hernandez

West Ham United’s Javier Hernandez could become a key player in Manuel Pellegrini’s side next season, according to ExWHUemployee.

The reliable insider revealed on his personal Twitter page that the Mexico international is highly thought of by the current manager and believes he could thrive with the right type of service.

He wrote: “Hernandez has been told he will have a key role at the club this year as Pellegrini doesn’t want a complete overhaul of forwards and also thinks that Hernandez is a top forward with the right service. (Be interesting if a top offer comes in for him what we do though).”

Indeed, to back up what ExWHUemployee was saying, Hernandez has since been handed the number 9 shirt ahead of the upcoming campaign (via West Ham United’s official club website).

Things have certainly turned around for Hernandez in recent days as it looked just weeks ago that he was destined for the exit. He revealed that he had held discussions regarding his future at the London Stadium and it was felt best that he looked for a new side (Goal).

However, with the Maxi Gomez deal seemingly dead in the water and Marko Arnautovic having joined Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez as departed strikers, it seems the club have had a change of heart regarding Chicharito and look set to stick by him for another campaign.

With the addition of Pablo Fornals (described by Dean Ashton as a ‘striker’s dream’) this summer, it will be interesting to see if there is a positive connection between the two men and if they can help prove Pellegrini’s theory regarding the Mexican and the service he requires, although they will have to wait until the Premier League season begins as the Spaniard will not be joining them on their pre-season tour of Asia (club’s official website).

Hernandez has not had the best of times at West Ham since his £16million move from Bayern Leverkusen in 2017, as he has netted just 16 goals in 61 appearances (Transfermarkt).

However, a full season as a key member of Pellegrini’s squad may just provide the Hammers and the player exactly what they need moving forward.
