West Ham may have been handed boost in Edin Dzeko pursuit

The rumours surrounding Edin Dzeko and a move to West Ham United in the summer simply won’t go away, will they? It is evidently clear that Manuel Pellegrini needs to bring in a striker to help score goals on a consistent basis, but, there will be questions about whether the 33-year-old would be the right man for the task at hand at the London Stadium.

However, whether or not they believe the Bosnia and Herzegovina international is, it appears they may have been handed a rather encouraging piece of news in their pursuit for the veteran forward.

What’s the News?

Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) are claiming that Dzeko will leave AS Roma in the upcoming transfer window and is ‘packing his bags’.

The Italian media continue to link West Ham with a move for one of Pellegrini’s former Manchester City stars and suggest the Irons are willing to pay up to €15million (£12.9m) to bring him back to the Premier League.

It is also stated that the Hammers will have competition to secure his signature though, with the likes of Everton and Inter Milan ready to battle it out for him as well.

The Verdict:

With the amount of media coverage regarding the links between West Ham and Dzeko, it would appear that the club are keen on bringing him back to the Premier League in the summer and could be prepared to do whatever they can to make it happen.

There is no doubt that the 33-year-old could be an excellent addition for the Hammers, as he has a natural ability of finding the back of the net on a regular basis and has shown he is still relatively sharp when in the opponent’s penalty area.

When looking at everything on paper, Dzeko does appear to be the ideal man to spearhead Pellegrini’s attack, as he knows exactly what the manager would want from him and how he operates. The system the Chilean currently adopts at the club is something that would give the veteran an opportunity to thrive as he loves to play as a target man.

However, West Ham ideally need a striker that can lead the line for a number of years, not just a couple of seasons at best. Dzeko is reaching the closing stages of an excellent career and how long he would be able to remain at the top of his game remains to be seen.
