The West Ham United fans are hoping that David Moyes can make further additions to his squad before the window slams shut on Wednesday evening.
The Hammers have been vastly improved under David Moyes since he took charge at the club in early November following Slaven Bilic’s dismissal, but his positive work so far will count for nothing if West Ham finish in the bottom-three. If Moyes wants to avoid a dreaded relegation scrap this season, then he will need to make at least one signing to bolster the depth of his squad before the end of the transfer window.
Time is running out for Moyes to make a valuable acquisition, but the Scotsman might not have left it too late just yet. According to TEAMtalk, West Ham are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund’s attacking midfielder and former Chelsea talent Andre Schurrle, although they face strong competition from West Bromwich Albion for his signature according to the report.
Since Moyes took charge at the club, West Ham’s attacking pairing of Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic have stepped up to the plate and delivered a handful of match-winning performances to catalyse an overall improvement at the club.
However, the pairing cannot be solely relied on to save West Ham’s season, so it’s imperative that The Hammers beat The Baggies to Schurrle’s signature on deadline day. The 27-year-old German international has spent plenty of time on the sidelines this season through injury, and his lack of first-team football is beginning to tarnish his chances of being selected for Joachim Low’s World Cup squad this summer.
With that being said, Schurrle (valued at £16.2 million by Transfermarkt) will most likely be relishing the prospect of moving to West Ham where he will surely see his first-team opportunities increase. David Moyes’ squad is looking remarkably thin at the London Stadium, and his side could be set to face a battle to avoid relegation this season unless he makes his second shrewd loan move of the month by bringing Schurrle back to the Premier League.
