West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t had much to shout about this season, but with Premier League safety secured, the Hammers can begin to look ahead to the future.
David Moyes’ side are languishing in 15th in the Premier League table following fears earlier in the season that they would be in the mix for relegation. Instead of their on-field performances, it’s the fan trouble and off-field antics that have caught the headlines for all the wrong reasons this season.
The summer transfer window can’t come soon enough with a major revamp required if the Hammers are to trouble the top half of the table. Current number one, Joe Hart, will return to his parent club Manchester City when his loan expires in the summer. Therefore, Moyes will be in the market for a new number one.
The man for the job could be Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper – Rui Patricio. Valued at £14.4m by Transfermarkt, the 30-year-old has established himself as the top goalkeeper in the Portuguese league. The EURO 2016 winner would be a very clever addition, one capable of seriously improving their ranks, as well as not costing an arm and a leg.
Patricio would be the perfect replacement for Hart and give West Ham a long-term number one. They would likely face competition for his signature from the likes of Wolves and Napoli and may encounter difficulty when dealing with Lisbon following their pursuit of William Carvalho last summer.
Nevertheless, West Ham must move quickly and secure his services before one of their Premier League rivals.
West Ham fans, would Rui Patricio be a good number one? Let us know!
